The tech giants have sued the hacking company NOS. Microsoft, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, and others teamed up with Facebook in a legal battle against the Israeli cyber surveillance firm that exploited a bug in WhatsApp to spy on more than 1,400 people worldwide.

According to Kelechi Deca, the Tel Aviv based NSO is a major stakeholder in Circles, the company the Nigerian government and other governments in Africa paid millions of dollars to develop software for them to spy on journalists, activists, unionists and opposition politicians.

NSO Group rose in notoriety last year for the Pegasus spyware scandal after it was reported to have been used to exploit a vulnerability in the popular WhatsApp app to spy opposition organizers in several countries.
